Job Description and Duties

Under the direction of the Legislative Director of the Office of Legislative Affairs (OLA), the Deputy Director of Legislative Fiscal Policy acts as the main point of contact with the California Department of Finance, client agencies, and fiscal staff from the Legislature and Governor’s Office. Oversees legislative fiscal policy as it pertains to enacted, pending, and proposed legislative mandates and proposals and manages and oversees the work of the support staff for OLA including all matters relating to legislative fiscal reporting and fiscal policy. Independently acts as a public policy adviser on subject areas as assigned by the Legislative Director and legislation with a significant fiscal impact to the department, and annually staffs several AG-sponsored bills within that assigned portfolio.

In addition to evaluating each candidate's relative ability, as demonstrated by quality and breadth of experience, the following factors will provide the basis for competitively evaluating each candidate:

  1. Experience in advocating for legislation with a significant fiscal impact.
  2. Experience in legislative fiscal reporting and fiscal policy formulation and implementation.
  3. Knowledge of state and federal fiscal approaches on the legislative and regulatory process.
  4. Experience in planning, organizing and directing the work of professional and administrative support staff.
  5. Experience working with the California Department of Finance, fiscal staff in the California Legislature, Governor’s Office, and client state agencies regarding the fiscal impact of proposed and enacted legislation.
